Dr Giuliano G. Castellano is an Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law. At HKU, he is a Deputy Director of the Asian Institute of International Financial Law (AIIFL); he teaches and conducts research in the fields of financial and commercial and regulatory compliance.
Beyond academia, he advises international organisations and governments on a number of projects concerning financial regulation in the context of financial regulation, supply-chain finance, FinTech/RegTech, sustainable development and data governance policies. For over a decade, he served as a member of the Italian delegation at the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) to elaborate international legal standards promoting access to credit. Since 2017, he has been working with the World Bank, the European Bank on Reconstruction and Development and other multi-lateral development agencies on regulatory and legal reforms in over 20 jurisdictions in Asia-Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and Northern Africa, and Sub-Sharan Africa. In 2020, he has been appointed as an international expert for the UNIDROIT's Working Group to elaborate a Model Law on Factoring.
Dr Castellano holds a Law Degree from Bocconi University (Milan, Italy), a PhD in Economics and Social Sciences (Management) from the Ecole Polytechnique of Paris, and a PhD in Law from the Inter-University Centre for Law, Economics and Institutions awarded by the University of Turin (Collegio Carlo Alberto). Before taking his current post at HKU, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick and, prior to that, a Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Department of Law. He has held several faculty and research positions, including the posts of Adjunct Professor at Bocconi University, Visiting Professor at the Moscow Higher School of Economics, Visiting Professor at Paris-Dauphine, and Visiting Scholar at the University of Oxford.
